Awards Host Announcement

The Banff World Television Festival is proud to announce four of our awards hosts of the upcoming Banff World Television Awards.

Our Sunday awards ceremony will be hosted by Kim D'Eon, Senior Entertainment Reporter at Entertainment Tonight Canada. Kim is a Gemini Award winning reporter who has worked on CBC's 'Street Cents', 'CBC Sports', 'CBC Marketplace', 'CBC Newsworld', and 'The Hour'.

The Alberta Film Awards Lunch, taking place on Monday, June 14th, will honour winners of the Outstanding Achievement Award, the Innovative Producers’ Award, the Deluxe Outstanding Technical Achievement Award and the Award of Excellence. The lunch will be hosted by fifteen time Gemini Award nominee and a four-time winner Peter Keleghan. Keleghan is a seasoned award host, having hosted the ACTRA Awards in Toronto for 3 years, the DGC Awards, and the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival. 

Monday's ceremony will be hosted by Emmy Award winning investigative journalist Mary Garofalo, host of 16:9. As head of the investigative unit for Fox News, Mary has been at the front lines of every major news story, including the events of 9/11. Mary’s investigative reports have won her six Emmy awards and dozens of nominations. In 2008 alone, Mary was honoured with three prestigious news awards in a row: the Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Series, the New York Press Club Award for Consumer Reporting and the Newswomen's Club, Front Page Award.

The First annual Banff International Pilots Competition and Interactive Awards ceremony, taking place on Wednesday, June 16th,  will be hosted by EMMY nominated TV and Web Personality Shira Lazar. An authority in the new media space, Shira also appears, MC’s and speaks at other events around the world including: Mashable’s Social Good Conference, Twiistup, WITI’s 20th Anniversary Hall of Fame Awards, 140 Conference, Digital Family Reunion, Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour, Big Omaha Conference, SXSW, Girls In Tech Catalyst Conference and Media Leaders.

  • Soap Operas

Interactive Categories have been updated to include:

  • Best Cross-Platform Project
  • Best Branded Entertainment
  • Original Online Programs

Francophone categories have been added to honour the best TV programs originally produced in French from both Canada and around the world.
