
The BANFF Non-Fiction programming stream will focus on the future of Non-Fiction, Documentary and Reality TV. From establishing international co-productions, to marketing Canadian content on an international stage, to the progress of socially responsible reality tv programming, like Jamie Oliver’s School Lunch Project - these sessions will investigate, interrogate and open up a dialogue for change and strategies to bring factual content to the next level.

Nigel Lythgoe, co-founder and president, Big Red 2 Entertainment Prior to forming Big Red 2, Mr. Lythgoe was president of 19 Television, and prior to his tenure there, worked at London Weekend Television, where he was Controller of Entertainment and Comedy. Mr. Lythgoe also served as Head of Entertainment and Comedy for the U.K.’s London Weekend Television where he commissioned and produced hit shows such as 'Gladiators' and 'Blind Date.' Mr. Lythgoe earned himself the nickname "Nasty Nigel" as a judge on hit show 'Popstars' before leaving for Bob Geldof’s television company Planet 24, where he was executive producer and director of the U.K. version of 'Survivor.' Additionally, he developed and produced the TV phenomenon 'Pop Idol' in the UK and 'American Idol' in the US. He has also been a driving force in the world of performing arts as co-creator and executive producer of the Emmy Award-winning series 'So You Think You Can Dance.' |

Dick de Rijk, Creator, Deal or No Deal After working as a creative executive in the advertising and gaming industries, Dick partnered in 1999 with Joop van den Ende, creating some instant TV-successes in Holland. A year later he formed a creative team with John de Mol specializing in global TV-formats. In 2004, de Rijk signed an exclusive partnership with Endemol International that resulted in numerous worldwide format successes. In 2007, three of Endemol’s top-5 format properties were created by de Rijk, including their number one blockbuster - on air in some 150 countries - Deal Or No Deal. Under his new alliance with ProSiebenSat.1, Dick will be based out his offices in Hilversum, Netherlands. |

Julie Bristow, Executive Director of Factual Entertainment, CBC Television Julie began her work at CBC in broadcast journalism, starting as a program researcher and moving onto executive production for main network programs within CBC News and Current Affairs. As the head of Factual Entertainment, Julie is responsible for overseeing the development, production and commissioning activities in such fields as talk shows, game shows, lifestyle and reality programming, as well as the acquisition and adaptation of international formats for CBC. In her current portfolio are some of the networks most successful shows including 'Dragons’ Den', 'The Week The Women Went' and the live event sports reality program: 'Battle of the Blades.' |

Justin Scroogie, Format Doctor, television producer, author. As a Format Doctor, Justin is in considerable demand, working as a consultant with broadcasters and production companies around the world to diagnose and solve issues with their formats, from development to pilot to post-production. Recent clients include: CBC, DHX Media, Frantic Films, Media HQ and Temple Street (Canada). Justin is a Mentor, Trainer and Format Doctor for international format academy the Entertainment Masterclass, Visiting Tutor at the National Film & TV School in the UK, and a regular speaker and panelist at television events around the world. Justin also co-devised and produced the fear-filled reality experiment 'Shock Treatment' for Sky One, and the BAFTA award-winning 'Starfinder'. |

Tim Crescenti, President, Small World IFT Within just 5 years of the launch of Small World IFT, the company had 4 properties on the air in the US, and 18 properties on the air in the UK and globally.Crescenti was responsible for launching the Danish paper format, 'Big in Japan', which also airde on ABC as ' I Survived a Japanese Game Show' for two seasons and sold as format to 19 countries. Crescenti also spearheaded the creation of a global turnkey production operation in Tokyo, with five countries producing their own versions of the program. Crescenti and his team have also had success working with Nippon Television’s formats, which began with his discovery of 'Dragon's Den' |
